Raise your hand if you were like 2020 is my year. And then put it back up if you’re like Coronavirus has ruined everything.
Let me tell you, I’ve been on the struggle bus for the past few weeks since basically the Corona virus has taken over everything. And that means uncertainty. We don’t know what’s happening next and that means everything’s put on hold. But that’s not true.
Truth be told, I have a history of letting the things that are happening in my life take over all of my efforts to achieve my goals every year. On January 1st I write down all my goals. I write down all my resolutions and throughout the year things come up that push my goals to the side. Then at the end of the year I look back and I think, man, I really wish I would’ve done X, Y, Z. I really wish I would have started blogging. I really wished that I would’ve started exercising. I really wish, I really wish, I really wish.
I want to tell you that even though we’ve never experienced anything like what’s going on right now with the COVID19 outbreak, it’s not putting everything in your life at a standstill.
It’s not stopping you from doing what you want to do. It might be altering the way you do it, but it’s not stopping you. It is just making you think a little bit outside of the box.
We need to think about the goals we set at the beginning of 2020 and ask ourselves how can we keep pushing towards it considering what’s going on right now?
One of my big goals is to launch my branding business and put it on the map. Does that mean just because everybody is pinching their pennies a little tighter that everyone is spending a lot of time at home that a lot of people aren’t investing in a lot of things that I can’t launch my business?
Does that mean that uncertainty is going to stop me from making concrete steps to achieve my goal? It shouldn’t.
Last week I was on the struggle bus. I was like, I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know.
Where do these thoughts put me? They put me in a box waiting for something else to happen.
I’m going to have to wait until all this clears up and everything is blown over. Then, at that time, I can continue on with my goals. But you know what? That’s me bullshitting myself.
That’s me being afraid of what I need to do to put myself out there. It is a fear of success and I’m letting that fear hold on to the uncertainty. I’m grabbing the uncertainty and hiding behind it.
We need to remember what our goals are. We need to think about, given this, how can we still work towards our goals? How am I going to still build my business?
For me, I can make videos like I’m doing now. I can post a blog post, I can write to my email list, I can spend time connecting with people who I want to help and figuring out what kinds of problems they have and what kinds of things they need. So when this is all over, I am set up to truly help them
